Continuing Education Terms

| BIENNIAL REPORTING PERIOD |
| Timeframe in which required continuing education
credits must be completed for the biennial renewal of a producer’s license,
which is generally the 24-month time period ending on the date of license
expiration. (EXAMPLE: A producer born in November of 1957 would generally have
a reporting period of December 1, 2007, through November 30, 2009.)

| COURSE PROVIDER |
| An entity that has been approved by the Alabama
Department of Insurance to offer education courses to licensees who are
required to earn continuing education credits for the renewal of their
insurance license as required by this state. |
| CREDIT HOUR |
| A unit of measure of at least fifty (50) minutes
of participation in an approved classroom, seminar, online course, or
self-study course approved by the department. |
| EXEMPTIONS |
| A waiver of the standard guidelines or rules. |
| EXPIRATION DATE |
| The last day a license is valid as established
by the Alabama Insurance Code. |
| INSTRUCTOR |
| Anyone teaching an approved course of
instruction or lecturing at an approved seminar. May be a licensee. |
| INSURED |
| The consumer and/or policyholder. |
| NON-RESIDENT PRODUCER |
| An individual who does not reside in Alabama. |
| PRELICENSING COURSE |
| A course of study required by the Alabama
Insurance Code for producers prior to eligibility for the insurance
examination. |
| PROFESSIONAL DESIGNATION |
| An abbreviation or term used to describe the
completion of an individual's personal education to obtain a recognized
standard of expertise in a profession or occupation. Example: CPCU, CLU. |
| REGULATION |
| A principle, rule, or law designed to control or
govern behavior. |
| SELF-STUDY COURSE |
| This is a course of study conducted on an
independent or self-instructual basis. |
| SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE |
| A natural person, other than an officer,
manager, or managing general agent of the insurer, employed on salary by an
insurer or managing general agent to work for, with or through producers in
selling, soliciting, or negotiating insurance in the insurer or in the insurers
represented by the managing general agent, but only in the property lines of
authority. |
